BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will take part in the upcoming national elections if she is physically healthy, said party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The Secretary General of BNP spoke to Indian broadcaster NDTV about the latest issues in Bangladesh. He also said that if he comes to power through elections, he will develop good relations with India. Mirza Fakhrul also said that he believes that the army will not interfere in the political process and that no extremist organization is associated with the recent movement to overthrow Sheikh Hasina.
In this long interview, when asked about Khaleda Zia’s participation in the election, Fakhrul said, “She is very sick. is in hospital He is suffering from multidisciplinary disease. He was not getting good treatment in the country. We repeatedly requested the court and the government to send him abroad for better treatment. But that didn’t happen. The doctors said that he is not in the physical condition to go abroad now. We have to wait some more time to take him out of the country. If he is physically fit then he must participate in the election.
Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP is now ready for elections. However, it will take time to create a fair election environment in the country. Because the electoral structure was practically dismantled during Sheikh Hasina’s government. The entire electoral system has been corrupted and is now in no position to hold a free and fair election. Because of this, they have to make some changes in the electoral system.
Sajib Wazed Joy said that Sheikh Hasina did not resign. What is its authenticity? In response, Fakhrul said, in the presence of political parties and the army, the president himself said that he had resigned. It was not coercion, it was revolution. When millions of people were coming towards Sheikh Hasina’s house; His security forces and armed forces say he has two options. Stay here and read the fury of the people. Don’t leave the country anymore. He decided to leave the country.
Regarding allegations of attacks on Hindus and other minorities, Mirza Fakhrul said that this is not entirely true. When there is change in our country or other countries, especially in third world countries some people try to take advantage. In Bangladesh, unfortunately the leaders of the party in charge fall victim. Be they Muslims or Hindus. There have been some sporadic attacks on minorities. But they were not political or procedural agendas. The communal environment of Bangladesh is extraordinary.
