Benazir Hossain Nishi, the central leader of the banned Chhatra League, has been sent to prison after being remanded in a case filed over an attack on students during the student movement.
On Thursday (January 16), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Saifuzzaman’s court ordered him to be sent to prison.

Earlier, after a two-day remand, the investigation officer of the case presented the accused Nishi in court and requested to keep him in jail. On the other hand, the lawyers of the accused applied for bail. After hearing both sides, the court ordered to send Nishi to jail.

Police arrested Nishi from Satkhira on January 12. Then on January 14, the court granted his two-day remand application. It is known that on July 15, during the anti-discrimination movement, Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League leaders and activists attacked ordinary students on the Dhaka University campus. More than three hundred students were injured in this incident. On October 28, Arman Hossain, a student of the university’s Sergeant Zahirul Haque Hall, filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital on charges of attempted murder. In the case, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain was the main accused and a total of 220 people were named as accused in the case. Nishi is accused number 210 in this case.
